I enjoyed reading Season of Cicadas. We grew up hearing stories of Khangayei. The phrase, “I go my way, and you go your way,” was often quoted whenever someone narrated a Khangayei story. One Khangayei story I remember is about an Amei Asai who shot a Khangayei in the BRFT Jail area, Ukhrul. I don’t really know how true the story is. Also, we hardly hear Khangayei stories nowadays. Is it because we have slowly evolved, or because Khangayei never existed in the first place and it was all just a myth? Season of Cicadas is also a story about the strong bond between a buffalo and a farmer, and how they look after one another.

I love this book. As someone who grew up in Ukhrul in the 90s, I can totally relate to the stories. Jim with his skillful storytelling has made ordinary stories comes alive.
