Reading Circles Join or host a small reading group of up to 12 people around a single book. Circles run over four guided weeks with weekly discussion prompts. Members post, reply, and respond to each other. Replying earns 5 points. Starting a circle earns 10 points.
Community Participate in community discussion spaces — general conversations, book recommendations, author discussions, and more. Like posts, bookmark threads, and reply to other readers. Posting earns 10 points.
Author Q&A Ask any verified author a question from their author page or from any of their book pages. Questions are public, and when the author answers, you receive a notification.
My Network Follow readers to see their reviews, quotes, reading circles, and finished books in your Activity feed. Follow verified authors to receive their Q&A answers and book notes. The For You tab surfaces reader recommendations and authors worth following.
Points & Leaderboard Every meaningful action on NortheastReads earns points. A public leaderboard ranks the most active readers on the portal.
Giveaways Spend your earned points to enter book giveaways. Each giveaway has a set points cost per entry and a maximum number of entries per person. Past giveaways and winners are publicly listed.
Referral System Every reader gets a unique referral link on their profile. When a friend signs up through your link, you earn 100 points and receive a notification and email. A referral counter on your profile tracks how many people have joined through you.
Notifications A live notification feed covering follows, answered questions, post likes, reading circle activity, replies, and updates from authors you follow.
Profile Page A public reading profile showing your bio, location, avatar, books read, reviews, community posts, reading stats, public shelves, and network counts. New readers see an onboarding checklist that clears step by step as they get started.

Blog A community blog where readers and staff publish articles, recommendations, essays, and reviews. Posts are taggable, featurable, and shareable.
Verified Author Page Every author in the NortheastReads catalog has a public author page. If you are the author, request to link it to your reader account. Once approved, your author presence is connected — you keep your reader account and gain author tools on top of it.
Author Dashboard A private dashboard showing your Q&A activity, follower count, book notes, and a full management view of your presence on the portal.
Edit Your Author Page Add or update your bio, profile photo, state, website, and social links directly from your author page. Keep your public presence current.
Answer Reader Questions See all questions sent to you in your dashboard. Answer, feature, or reject them. Answered questions appear publicly on your author page and on the relevant book pages. The reader who asked receives a notification when you answer. You can edit or delete your answers at any time.
Book Notes Publish curated notes directly on your book pages — what inspired the book, context for readers, or read-next recommendations. Notes appear on the book page and in the activity feed of everyone who follows you.
Submit a Book Submit a book for inclusion in the NortheastReads catalog directly from your author page. Submissions go to the admin for review.
Author Followers Readers follow your author page to receive your Q&A answers and book notes in their feed. Your follower count is shown publicly. You receive a notification when someone new follows you.
Email Notifications Receive an email notification when a reader sends you a new question — with the question text and a direct link to respond from your dashboard.
