Ramu Upadhaya is an Indian writer, poet, freelance journalist and essayist based in Haflong in the Indian states of Assam.
He was born in 1965 to Pitambar Upadhaya and Nandakala (Bawni) Upadhaya, an Indian Nepali speaking couple, from the North Cachar Hills district (now Dima Hasao), Assam. His late father was in the Northeast Frontier Railway service and mother, a homemaker, at the Nepalis' hamlet, Bhanjang (also known as Bhunjung) Basti, via Mahadev Tilla: Haflong, Assam. He is a graduate of Gauhati University, India. Before publishing books, he tried his hand at journalism, for he had undergone professional courses in Public Relations and Journalism.
