Explore Books From The Northeast
This anthology features stories, writings, and visual art representing the rich diversity of Northeast India. The region, often referred to collectively but imperfectly as the “Northeast”, encompasses many distinct cultures and communities. Within these pages, 21 contributors explore the theme of “work” from their varied perspectives in the region.
Readers are given glimpses into the daily occupations and lived experiences of people in Northeast India, described with humor and empathy. Street vendors, beer brewers, mothers, and dung collectors are some of the subjects addressed. The compilation also highlights the work of women artists and storytellers from the area.
Curated by Parismita Singh, the anthology experiments with diverse genres and art forms, both traditional and contemporary. Poetry, portraits, essays, textile art, and hashtag poetry on social media offer different avenues for sharing stories and visions of life in the Northeast. By bringing together such an array of voices and mediums, the book aims to represent the richness and dynamism of the region in an inclusive way.
